Mad Man Jams by Greg Powell

Music of all kinds provides some of the richest inspiration for the poetry of Greg Powell.  Mad Man Jams includes his most popular pieces, like “Broken Legacy,” which he performed at The Green Mill Lounge. “Evil” was inspired by Delta Blues Legend Robert Johnson (1911 – 1938), whereas “Dance of the NoName Diva” is a more recent poem.  In it, Greg recalls an evening concert shared with his son, Jair. He wrote “Confirmation” as a tribute to Langston Hughes, and fellow poet and friend, Sterling Plumpp.  Finally, Powell’s poem, “Billy Branch & Sons of the Blues” is a popular piece recalled from his New York City years.  You’ll hear a sense of  lyrical syncopation, which he also brings to his drumming, in the video below.
