Of Love and Dust and Love Again

Of love and dust and love by Greg Powell

Of Love and Dust and Love Again

Be careful to whom you give
Your fragile heart.
Be sure of the hands
You place your jewel.
They that heal can also
Kill joy that sprouts
Your smile. Hands
Gone wrong can wreck you.
Can whither and suck you
Dry. Drain your life river
To caked mud. Still your pulse
And stagnate your blood. Stifle
Spirit with spells of rust. Erode
And mountain of love into dust.
I know wreckage of heart.
Loneliness to freeze
Marrow of bones. Tears
To soak a sinking soul.
I been there, in valley
Sinking to dust. I learned
Lovers stand on hope
Where promises elude.
And if you should fall
In love and fall
To dust, wallow for awhile
Until tears are spent. Then shake
It up, baby. Shake dust and rust
From vision with verve. Shake it off
Like rain you escaped. And I’ll be there to praise
Your reborn sheen. Shake yourself from sleep
Of despair. Despair is for the desperate, shake
It up in a destiny dance. After love is crushed to dust, love reigns
Again, calling your name. let divine voice fill you anew.
Open moon eyes and sip the sun. shake yourself up
Climb summit of fertile mountain breathe
Crisp pure air gaze down on transient clouds
That once consumed your dreams. I’ll meet you there,
Hold you there. We’ll drink dew and quench dry sorrows.
Look over horizons of infinite tomorrows. Feast
On life’s loveliness and parry its blows. Plant our seed
And give praise as it grows. Our blessed life
River will forever flow. Our hands will stitch
Our hearts whole, leaving only scars,
And remembrance of teary red eyes, to keep us wise
